The Barn at High Point Farms

farm for sale flier

My Life Changed

Only 36 hours prior to this auction did my daddy first learn about the upcoming sale of the farm.  The farm that 17 years previously did he visit for the first time.  His greatest hope that day as he attended this auction was to be able to purchase one of the tracts on the creek so he could build a house.  We were all totally dumbfounded when at the end of the day, somehow, he ended up purchasing the whole farm.  From that Thursday night before the auction when he just “so happened” to be reading the classified ad about the sale, to Saturday afternoon and surprisingly winning the final bid, my life totally changed.

At the time of the purchase, there was the very old farmhouse, a cinder-block milk-house outbuilding, and a pole barn.

Many, many countless hours and years of sweat and toiling over the farmhouse to bring this old farmhouse back to life.

Each board (both inside and out) has been touched and revamped.  Keeping as much original as possible, we did the unbelievable to so many people who advised us to just bull-doze that old eye-sore of a building down; we brought her back to life.

This is one of the few “early years” photos of our Milkhouse.  It was a shell of a building used mostly as a toolshed in its later years. Imagination, creativity, paint, a fast-growing vine, and elbow-grease transformed even that primitive old Milkhouse into a beauty.

and, of course, the barn...

The barn is different but the goats – well, somethings do stay the same.

I’ll pretend I’m not good at math so I can’t envision just how old I am now.

With my family on the farm, next door to the farm, and in town – I am truly blessed to live here and to be a part of all the farm.  It’s been an adventurous 50 years, reckon I can garner a few more years?  I’m counting on it. ~ Margie
